SHOW PAYS TRIBUTE TO RAT PACK
By Janet Davies
Frank, Dean, Sammy and Joey were irresistible bad boys -- and the hottest act in Vegas! The fascination with that era continues.
Sandy Hackett -- son of beloved comic Buddy Hackett - takes us back to that magical phenomenon.
"It was a love affair between men. They loved hanging out with each other for that slice of history," said Hackett. "Finding people to recreate these people exactly is impossible finding people to give you a likeness a feel of what it might have been like the spontaneity the fun the camaraderie the relationships four guys loved each other," said Hackett.
Hackett met entertainment royalty while growing up. He plays Joey Bishop in his 'Tribute' to the coolest cats on the strip.
"They were making this movie in Las Vegas shooting ocean's eleven during the day stop shooting during the day and do shows at night," said Hackett.
Guys in the pack would routinely end up on the outs with the volatile Sinatra.
"Frank was in Hawaii, went swimming and almost drowned lifeguards had to pull him out. Joey sent him a telegram 'Can't believe they had to pull you out of the water. I thought you could walk on it.' Frank laughed and Joey was back in," said Hackett.
It was Hackett's dad Buddy-- who got his old pal Joey to give his blessing to the Rat Pack Tribute.
"I said I need permission from Joey. He said OK and took a drive down to Newport and said give my kid a licensing agreement to do you. Why should I do that? Because I asked," said Hackett.
